Smart Lock or Traditional Deadbolt? The Honest Comparison
Both can be secure. The right answer depends on how your household comes and goes.
A traditional deadbolt is simple, needs no batteries, and has decades of proven design behind it. If your household is small and nobody loses keys, it is hard to beat.
A smart lock shines when lots of people need access: kids coming home from school, a cleaner on Tuesdays, guests in a short-stay rental. Codes can be changed in seconds, and some models show you who came and went.
The weak points of smart locks are poor installation and cheap brands. A lock is only as strong as its mechanical parts. Choose a known brand and have it fitted properly to a solid door.
Batteries are not a big worry in practice. Good models warn you well before they run flat and offer a backup way in.
Many of our customers end up with both: a smart lock on the front door for convenience and a quality deadbolt on the back door for simplicity.
