Workshop Notes
A Sticky Lock Today Is a Lockout Tomorrow. Fix It Now.
Most lock problems give warning signs. A repair now costs far less than an emergency later.
A key that needs jiggling, a handle that droops, a door that only locks if you lift it. These are early warnings. Left alone, they usually end with a key snapping in the lock or a door that will not open at the worst possible moment.
Inner West homes have their own habits. Older terraces shift with the seasons, so doors drop and strikes stop lining up. Coastal air around Balmain and Rozelle can corrode cylinders. We see these patterns daily and know how to fix them properly.
A typical repair includes cleaning and lubricating the lock, adjusting or replacing the strike plate, tightening or replacing worn parts, and checking that the door closes and latches cleanly. If the lock is beyond saving, we tell you straight and quote a replacement.

Letters on Lock Repairs
Should I spray oil into my lock?
Please don't. Household oils attract grit. We use dry lubricants made for locks.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace?
Often repair, but not always. We give you both options when both make sense.
Can you fix heritage door hardware?
In many cases, yes. We try to keep original hardware where it is safe to do so.
